            Facilitator Guide and Participant Workbook

You can offer a cost-effective brain fitness course for your group or organization!

This course is an educational experience for adults with normal age-related memory changes or only minor cognitive impairment; its primary goal is to help maintain cognitive function (thinking and memory skills).

Ten, 60 – 90 minute interactive sessions in which participants

  • learn about the brain’s processes of attention, working memory, long-term memory, reasoning, and problem solving
  • participate in mental exercises to engage and stimulate the brain
  • learn about lifestyle practices for maintaining brain health
  • practice strategies for improving thinking and memory

One goal of this course is for participants’ learning to transfer to tasks of daily living such as attention, word-finding, remembering names, and planning. Research shows that continued participation in mentally stimulating activities throughout the lifespan can help slow cognitive decline and has the potential to reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Sasser’s Brain Enrichment course was a perfect fit to respond to requests from our aging population for education to promote brain health. The course filled almost immediately upon announcement, and generated a lengthy wait list. Upon completion of the 10-week course, participants said what an outstanding class and it made them realize they can do something to improve their memory, and recommend we offer it again. – Barb M., coordinator, and Dave D., facilitator, Green Bay, WI

Our group thoroughly enjoyed the Brain Enrichment Course held at Wayne Township. The group interaction and variety made the brain games informative and engaging. – Gayle K., facilitator, Carol Stream, IL

I have found this course extremely easy to facilitate. The material is interesting and always engaging. Many group activities, exercises and “homework” material throughout the 10 weeks are provided. The group was never bored and the progress noted was encouraging and motivating.  – Giulia B-D., facilitator, Lamorinda Village, Lafayette, CA

The Facilitator Guide has been easy to use and we are both enjoying teaching the class. The participants love the exercises and attendance has been great. Other residents keep asking when we will offer again. Thanks for the great materials. – Dee S., facilitator, Mayslake Village, Oak Brook, IL
